   8 .SH DESCRIPTION
   9 This command sets and displays the mailbox currently assigned to
  10 .IR username
  11 (your own name by default).
  12 If neither the
  13 .B -s
  14 or the
  15 .B -p
  16 option is given, the current mailbox will be displayed.
  17 The
  18 .B -s
  19 option will attempt to set the user's mailbox to the specified address.
  20 The
  21 .B -p
  22 flag will set the user's mailbox to the last Post Office server it was
  23 using if the mailbox is now a foreign address.

  25 A mailbox address is of the form
  26 .I string@hostname,
  27 where the string is usually the username, and the hostname is the name
  28 of the machine the user wishes to receive mail on.
  29 .B chpobox
  30 will determine if the mailbox is of type POP, LOCAL, or FOREIGN based
  31 on information in the SMS database, and then make the appropriate
  32 change in the SMS database.

  34 It will not allow a user to have more than one mailbox of any type.
  35 The actual change will not take place on the mail hub for several hours.
  36 Users may only change their own information unless they are
  37 SMS database administrators.

  39 When a mailbox is stored in the central database, any host mentioned
  40 will have it's name canonicalized to a standard form.  If for some
  41 reason you don't want to have the hostname canonicalized, put
  42 .B just the hostname
  43 in double-quotes.  For example, the command
  44 .nf

  46         chpobox -s jrhacker@\\"lcs.mit.edu\\"
  47 .fi
  48 will not be canonicalized to jrhacker@ptt.lcs.mit.edu, as it would
  49 otherwise.  Also note that the double-quotes were preceded by
  50 backslashes to get them past the shell.
