   8 .SH DESCRIPTION
   9 This command changes (or installs)
  10 the GECOS information field
  11 associated with
  12 .IR username
  13 (your own name by default).  It also asks for some information not in
  14 the standard GECOS field, such as a nickname and home address.
  15 The GECOS information is the information shown by
  16 .I finger(1).

  18 When invoked,
  19 .B chfn
  20 displays the current information as default values
  21 while prompting for any changes.
  22 The fields include a user's
  23 ``real life'' name, nickname, home address and phone number,
  24 office address and phone number, department and year.
  25 Included in each prompt is a default value,
  26 which is enclosed between brackets.
  27 The default value is accepted simply by typing a carriage
  28 return.  To enter a blank field, the word ``none'' may
  29 be typed.  Below is a sample run:
